How we helped a fast-growing business promote user experience in line with shifting company goals
Energix is a leading provider of energy data and intelligence, serving various sectors in the energy industry. Over the last 40 years, Energix has gained a respected name in offering reliable oil and gas information. With their expansion into renewable energy focusing on solar wind and carbon capture the urgency for a renewed brand and fresh online appearance became clear. Energix sought our help to update its website to develop a consistent and accessible user journey that aligns with its evolving business priorities and aids its ongoing and new industries.
We initiated the project by talking with stakeholders and evaluating the current Energix website in depth. Our study uncovered several challenges. Energix business growth outpaced its attention to user-friendliness resulting in a disorganized and difficult-to-navigate website. Users were dissatisfied with the cluttered content and complex navigation structure, which hindered their ability to fully grasp Energix’s product range.
Energix’s acquisition in the solar and wind sectors complicated the problem since they had not been incorporated into the website. As a dire consequence, users faced challenges in identifying pertinent facts about these new divisions. Our goal was to consolidate Energix’s segments into a single streamlined platform to improve user navigation and reduce content chaos.
The homepage became a critical area of focus. We needed to ensure that Energix’s five energy divisions Seismic, Well, Wind, Solar, and Carbon were immediately recognizable to users upon landing on the site. To achieve this, we implemented an interactive selector that offered a preview of each division, allowing users to explore each segment before diving deeper into specific content. This provided an intuitive way for users to view all of Energix’s product offerings in one place and get a better sense of each division’s focus.
Due to the extensive content on the website of Energix with its five energy sections and a sustainability hub along with various blogs and information pages, we required a plan that met all company requirements. We chose to apply a modular strategy in redesigning the site. By examining the site audit thoroughly we found the prominent modules employed throughout the site. Building these modules provided us the ability to assemble various components as required while keeping a cohesive visual theme across the large content library of Energix.
The homepage turned into an essential focus point. Recognizing Energix’s five energy divisions—Seismic Well Wind Solar and Carbon—the moment users land on the site became crucial. We created an interactive selector that showed how each division functions before users enter into detailed content. An easy method emerged for users to view Energix’s entire product catalog in one spot and understand the unique goals of each division.
Energix desired every energy division to have an individual reputation with customized color schemes and logos. In partnership with Energix, we deployed their branding framework for the various divisions while keeping a consistent look for Energix itself. These styles were added to our modular design setup to assist users in identifying their location as they moved through different sections.
To enhance orientation for users we implemented breadcrumb navigation in various sections of the site. This allowed users to recognize the division and topic they were examining and aided their exploration of content with confidence. Our pages used a layout that separated content effectively while highlighting crucial calls to action, such as contacting Energix or arranging a demo. All divisions required unique content guidance; thus we added subsurface navigation links to help structure the information well.
We produced detailed models for each division of Energix’s five energy sectors and conducted usability exams with the stakeholders we worked with in the discovery phase. The responses were mostly favorable. Stakeholders praised the site for its clear and engaging design of the energy divisions and stated that it was now easy for users to find their way around. A stakeholder shared her excitement about sharing the site with clients now; previously she was reluctant because of the unclear design.
By conducting usability tests we found necessary adjustments for the designs ahead of their completion. A few stakeholders proposed modifying particular terminology and naming patterns to make the website easier to access for clients. To illustrate a point further we changed the name from ‘Subsurface Data’ to ‘Seismic and Well Data’ and redefined ‘Divisions and Solutions’ as ‘Industries.’ The implemented changes clarified the information layout and guaranteed the site’s vocabulary correlated with users’ awareness of market topics.
Once the designs were signed off by us we teamed up with the Energix development team to make certain the implementation went well. Though the development team faced a tight schedule they managed to complete the new site within just under a month after completing the handover. The modular method significantly contributed to achieving their tough deadline because it facilitated the quick gathering of all site elements.
The brand update and new site are currently available and Energix has already noticed significant achievements. Following the rollout of the program, page views from the Seismic division grew by 405%. An increase of 6% in website interaction has seen the Seismic along with Well Data and Wind pages now in the top 10 most browsed pages–a list that used to be filled mostly by corporate content. These figures show how well the new design attracts users and leads them towards Energix’s essential business services.
We are thrilled to see our work making a real impact on users and helping Energix solidify its position as a leading provider of energy data and intelligence. Because Energix is expanding and improving its services we trust the updated website will continue to be vital for reaching their objectives. Check out the revamped site and witness our efforts on the Energix website.
